How are Dental (Porcelain Veneers) Applied

Porcelain veneers can dramatically change one’s appearance for the better. Incredibly, this change can typically be accomplished in only three dental visits—once to create the “trial smile” (your test drive of the veneers before they are actually made), second to approve or make changes to the veneers and lastly to preview the final veneers, approve them and then place them on your teeth with our argon dental bonding laser. The veneering procedures are performed under local anesthesia, sometimes with the addition of a safe and effective anti-anxiety pill, for comfortable and relaxing appointments.

The Veneer Placement Process
Here is what you can expect when you have veneers placed:
  • To get your tooth ready to have your veneers placed, Dr. Huefner will shape a very small amount off of the front of your teeth, typically about the thickness of your fingernail.
  • The veneers will replace the layers that the dentist has removed—but with a much more enhanced appearance.
  • During this process, a local anesthetic will keep you comfortable.
  • An impression of your tooth or teeth will be created and sent to a dental laboratory.
  • From this impression, your new veneers will be fashioned.
  • Dr. Huefner will create your “trial smile” and place your temporary veneers on your teeth to wear. Thus, you walk out after your very first treatment appointment with a beautiful smile.
  • Dr. Huefner’s master ceramist will follow Dr. Huefner’s direction and create your new veneers to be bonded. This usually takes two weeks.
  • After carefully placing and fitting your new veneers, and getting your approval, Dr. Huefner uses beam of laser light to harden the bonding cement, which bonds the veneers to your teeth.
  • The last stage of the process is the removal of excess cement, polishing your teeth, adjusting your bite and sometimes some minor fine-tuning of the teeth shapes.
