What are dental veneers made of?

Broken, stained, chipped, or crooked front teeth can decrease your self confidence. In the past porcelain crowns and plastic bonded fillings were the only options, but today porcelain veneers are in many cases the preferred method for correcting these unsightly dental problems. Dental veneers are thin shells created from a durable and natural-looking porcelain material that your cosmetic dentist skillfully bonds to the teeth using modern laser technology.

Low-Stress Procedure
Porcelain veneers are placed while the patient is totally comfortable, using a gentle technique of local anesthetic. At our Sensational Smiles office, we understand that patients need a relaxing, comfortable environment, and we do all within our power to reduce your anxiety and to provide a warm, nurturing atmosphere. For patients who are nervous, more sensitive or just plain anxious about their dental visits, “Anxiety Free Dentistry” can also be utilized. Taking a safe and effective relaxing pill the night before the appointment and sometimes a second pill the morning of the appointment has gained popularity around the country for making dentistry extremely comfortable.

Three Office Visits Needed
Three office visits are typically involved in making and placing porcelain veneers. The first visit Dr. Huefner will gently prepare the teeth, make a mold of your teeth and then place temporary veneers, commonly called “the trial smile”. Using artistry, creativity and years of experience, Dr. Huefner will create the desired shape, size, and color of your temporary veneers. This is probably the most important part of cosmetic dentistry, as it allows you to actually “test drive” your new smile. You will then return a couple days later and Dr. Huefner will fine tune any changes that may be needed your “trial smile” to give you the smile of your dreams. Then, based on your input and approval, Dr. Huefner’s master ceramist will be directed precisely how to make your final veneers to accomplish your personal objectives. Finally, at the third visit, the “trial smile” temporary veneers are gently removed and the final veneers are placed on your teeth for your approval. Only after getting your complete approval will Dr. Huefner secure them on to your teeth with his dental laser.
